In the author’s opinion, here are the best cuts of beef you can find traveling the world.
1) Bistecca Fiorentina (Italy) [Pictured from https://www.instagram.com/osteriadaluca/ ] (and I just had a great one with today’s lunch in Florence at https://www.facebook.com/CantinadePucci )
2) Matsusaka wagyu (Japan) – I had this last in 2003 but I will be back in Japan in April and hoping for a revisit. (this is followed closely by A5 Wagyu). The best A5 near home is at SeaBlue Restaurant and Wine Bar along with many other amazing steaks.
3) Bife de chorizo (Argentina) – I had this last in January 2024 in Buenos Aires. I recommend Don Julio SOHO Buenos Aires
4) Picanha (Brazil) – I cook this all of the time, I can get it at Vitória International Meat Market – Myrtle Beach.
5) Ribeye (USA) – in the US, this is best obtained from small local farms with grass fed cattle. I get mine from 455 Farms when I am in town. Of courses a good NY or KC Strip Steak is always a good choice too!
At least that is my take after visiting over 1000 restaurants across 100 countries (cataloged in Graham’s Guide).
And there are a lot of other great cuts of beef, steaks and beyond around the world. What are your favorite?
